Every now and then you might need someone to take care of our dog (while your family, relatives and friends can't... and sometimes it is just better not to give your walking bomb to your friends...). We are lucky here in Finland to have hundreds of boarding kennels, where you can leave your dog while you are travelling etc. There is professional people taking care of your "baby" in boarding kennels so you can relax...
The range of the prise for one day in boarding kennel is from 10 € to 20 €. This flux is caused by quality and placement of the kennel. And you have to pay more when you have a big dog (it eats more than smaller ones...). If you have many dogs, you won't have to pay the full prise of every dog (well, some of the places might not give this discount). Usually the prise includes the care, food and treatment (not food, if the dog has a special diet!).
Before you bring your dog to the boarding kennel you should find out the following things:
- tidiness and safety of the place
- level of the personnel (kindness, education)
- healthy and liveliness of other animals
- how they will take your dog for a walk (will they have a walk or is there a cattle-yard)
- feeding your dog (what it eats and when it eats)
- will the owner of the boarding kennel work there full-time
- in emergency cases: is there a chance to have vet's help
- is the insurances of the place ok (remember your insurances should be also ok!)
When you bring your dog to boarding kennel you should always do a written contract. If they have not any readiness to do a written contract, maybe you should think to bring your dog to some other boarding kennel. From the contract should appear:
- number of the nursing days and moment in time
- how they will take your dog for a walk (also conditions like could they let your dog walk free)
- how your dog should be feeded (what and when)
- special needs of your dog (medications, diets etc.)
- the total price of the servise (only the extra days can be invoiced separately)
- contact info of the dog owner and boarding kennel (also the phone number of the owner, that they may call if something happens)
When you bring your dog to the boarding kennel, your dog should be vaccinated and healthy. You as a dog owner are responsible if you bring to the boarding kennel a dog with infectious disease and this causes for example other dogs getting ill. The boarding kennel is responsible if any damages happens to the dog (disappearing, hurting etc.)
