Vaccination regulations

Distemper: Dog must be vaccinated twice against distemper and from second vaccination (effects) must be done at least two weeks before the dog enters shows or tests. Vaccination given to dog under a year old is valid one year. Effects vaccination given to dog over a year old is valid two years and safety time not needed. If dog's vaccination against distemper is expired, new vaccination should be given at least two weeks before the show or test (safety time of two weeks). 
Recommendation to dog owner: First vaccination against disptemper should be given when dog is 3 months old and second time after a month. If dog has higher danger of infection for example because of infection cases in near area or because of export, import or visit abroad, then is recommended to take vaccination more often.

Rabies: To enter show or test the first rabies vaccination of the dog must have been given at least 2 weeks before. Rabies vaccination is valid for one year when given to dog under a year old. Rabies vaccination is valid for two years when given to dog over a year old. It dog takes part to cave tests and hunting, rabies vaccination is valid only one year. If rabies vaccination is expired, new vaccination should be given at least two weeks before show or test (safety time of two weeks).
Recommendation to dog owner: First rabies vaccination should be given when dog is 4 months old.

Attention: when importing a dog from other countries to Finland you should check the regulations of importing dogs for example from homepage of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry at http://www.mmm.fi/english/ (these regulations are not the same as regulations of Finnish Kennel Club).

Vet check up

In shows there is not usually vet check up for every dog, but those are done as random tests. All exhibitors are asked to arrive to show place already good time before the ring starts for the breed.

Regulations concerning infectious diseases

If dog gets infection of distemper, infectious hepatitis, kennel cough or other infectious breath infection, infectious diarrhea etc., the dog is not allowed to enter Finnish shows before it has been without symptoms for two weeks or longer. Same rule is recommended to dogs living in same household even if not having symptoms. Also parasites must be properly ejected before dog may enter shows, tests or competitions..
