Write down welsh results in shows and send those us to be published. And we also would be very glad to have photos from shows to be published next to results.

So this is what we will try as new thing next year. We will see how it works and if does, then we continue that of course. :)

26.11.2003 Changes to FKK show rules starting 1.1.2004

Finnish Kennel Club has decided to do changements to Finnish dog show rules starting 1.1.2004.

Finnish Kennel Club council has decided to take back BD (best dog) and BB (best bitch) classes to dog shows starting from the start of next year. Also the chapter about "bitches in heat" will be removed which means also bitches in heat are allowed to be exhibited in dog shows starting 1.1.2004.

In this same meeting was decided that in international shows participating in working class demands after 1.1.2004 only spaniel working ability test result (passed) or 3rd prize from hunting test (so demanded to have working test result which is needed for national or international champion title).

The actual Int Ch title rules were changed (and our national Kennel Club is not even allowed to change those without FCI's approvement, because this title is given by FCI). At this point for Int Ch title is needed 109 points from hunting test which is more than 1st prize. We will see if this will be changed someday as it was in 2002 and passed spaniel working test or 3rd prize from hunting test was enough to gain the title.

11.11.2003 Spaniel Club autumn meeting will decide about new rules for the club

Spaniel Club's committee named people to prepare the suggestion for the year meeting from new club rules. Maybe the most visible changement for members is about membership. If the club will get new rules it means the club accepts also individual members, not only club members. You may read old and new suggested rules from Spaniel Club homepage (in Finnish):

8.11.2003 Springer Spaniel Club applying for official Breed Club?

Finnish Springer Spaniel Club had meeting 8.11.2003 in Nokia, where was decided the club will apply for official breed club rights. This will mean in practise that Spaniel Club would not be our breed club anymore. Springer spaniels would be separated from the club, where other spaniel breeds are members of (only American Cocker Spaniels have been separated already before, but all other are under Spaniel Club).

This changement would cause some changements also to springer hobby, because Springer Spaniel Club cannot be after that member of Spaniel Club (not allowed for breed club to be member of other breed club). So springer spaniels would be somehow 'separated' from other spaniel breeds. We also must hope that local spaniel clubs will still keep also springers in their club's breeds, even if they are Spaniel Club member clubs.

The main show for springer spaniels has been same as to all spaniel breeds, it has been Spaniel Club Main Show in Hyvinkää every year. After this the main show would be Karkku show and it is likely springers cannot take part to Spaniel Club main show anymore when Spaniel Club is not breed club for the breeds (for example right now American Cocker Spaniels do not have right to take part to Spaniel Club's show). Also Springer Spaniel Club would have the power to decide if or not in Karkku would be given 3 cc's per gender (this is allowed according to Finnish Kennel Club show rules starting 1.1.2003).

It is always breed club who makes the decisions of changements for the PEVISA program, which is the program against hereditary diseases and faults for breeds in Finland. Still it is at end only Kennel Club who makes the final decision what this program includes, but Springer Spaniel Club would be the one making suggestions.

If members of Springer Spaniel Club are not members of any other club which is member of Spaniel Club, this would mean the members do not get Spaniel-magazine anymore (Spaniel Club's member magazine). Well, also if springers are not anymore the breeds of Spaniel Club, maybe the magazine will also not include so much information about the issues concerning Welsh or English springer spaniels. Btw, just to let you know for example local spaniel club of Southwest Finland has two different kind of members, those who get Spaniel Club magazine and those who do not. According to Springer Spaniel Club homepage there is said in the future when club will get extra money, also Springer Spaniel Club's member magazine will be developed (the club will get more money when members pay the same, but Springer Spaniel Club do not have to pay member fees to Spaniel Club anymore).

It is always breed club who takes care of judge training for the breed and also costs of that. And also the breed club is the one who must find people to train judges. This will in the future be Springer Spaniel Club.

In rules for spaniel hunting test and spaniel working ability test is said that only breeds of Spaniel Club can take part to those. If springer spaniels are wanted to have the right to take part to these tests in the future too, we must apply for changement to these rules. And we must only hope this will not take long time to get this changement. And if we want, we also must apply for permission to take part to spaniel championship tests of hunting, obedience, agility etc. because now those are also only for Spaniel Club's breeds.
Actually Springer Spaniel Club's committee has on it's own initiative already made their suggestion to Spaniel Club year meeting for changement to these rules (committee did this before the Springer Spaniel Club had even decided to apply for breed club rights). This suggestion was to change rules so that there is list of breeds which can take part to the tests and that list would include both springer spaniel breeds but also American cocker spaniel.
We just must hope now that when Springer Spaniel Club is applying for breed club rights, there would not be period when springer spaniels cannot take part to hunting tests or spaniel working ability tests.

When Springer Spaniel Club is official breed club, this would mean the club can decide itself about the club rules and also about "breeding target program". Springer Spaniel Club also could make by itself all the suggestions to change springer spaniel champion title rules for the Kennel Club (Spaniel Club approvement would not be needed of course). But still about international champion title rules are made by FCI (of course suggestions can be done to FCI too). Springer Spaniel Club would also have place in Kennel Club's council.

Most propably the fee for the Springer Spaniel Club members will stay as it is, because breed club's obligations will cause extra costs to the club. Springer Spaniel Club will still be the one answering for all costs and work for breeding (for example breeding committee, breeding check-up's, year books). The combinations will still be accepted by same breeding committee, it just will be only Springer Spaniel Club's committee, not Spaniel Club's anymore. So this will not cause any big changement to members.

We want to wish good luck to all people working for the Club now and in the future. Working for breed club is always hard work.

6.10.2003 Scandinavian Kennel Union will suggest changes to show rules

PKU (Pohjoismaiden Kennelunioni, Scandinavian Kennel Union) has decided to make suggestion to FCI for changements to show rules in force.

Union suggests, that countries could decide themselves how to choose best male and best bitch (but of course within the limits of FCI's rules). In Finland this maybe would mean in BD/BB -competition there would be 4 best placed in the future (so from every class 4 best dogs with quality prize 'excellent' would come to compete from placements). Second suggestion from union to FCI was concerning bitches in heat, they suggest this rule would be removed so that also these dogs would be allowed to be exhibited.

So now we all just must wait what FCI will reply to these suggestions.

1.10.2003 New disciplinary law is in force (Finland)

Today new disciplinary law came in force in Finland. This law will replace all own regulations in different cities and towns (and also it is said in law communes are not allowed to make more strict rules than this law is).

According to this new law dog owner must keep the dog in leash in densely populated area and also the stools must be collected from areas taken care (this means must be collected away or to be removed to uncared area from areas which has been taken care by the commune or private person). In densely populated areas dogs are allowed to be outside without a leash only in dog gardens, dog training areas and fenced yards. And even in these places when dog is without a leash it must be under owner's/holder's control. According to law it is now not allowed to take a walk with the dog in publich beaches, market places when market time, play gardens of children, sports fields and public ski tracks. From delinquency of this law you may get fixed penalty or day-fine.

28.9.2003 Spaniel of the year 2003 -title winner is sure

In Eckerö International show 27.-28.9.2003 we already got to know who is the winner of competition Spaniel Of The Year in Finland 2003. English springer spaniel Adamant's Superman "Onni" (owners Tarja Hovila & Darren Skipworth) ensured this title for himself with his BOB and BIG-1 wins. This is already FOURTH time for this same dog to gain this title (the titles before have been from years 1999, 2000 and 2002). Before this Eckerö show the winner had 21 points collected, when the cocker spaniel Flyers You Know in second place got 8 points. Onni got 6 more points from his BIG-1 win, when cocker spaniel did not get points at all (was not BOB in this show). So this is how Onni made the point difference too big for the cocker spaniel to catch anymore with main show's points (main show will be held 18.10.2003).
